I've been sitting on my balcony reading for school and smoking ciggs. Though I am alone, there is a lot going on around me. There is hip hop blasting and people yelling and laughing and making plans for tonight. There is noise from some sporting event going on and there are lots of cars driving around. I really like the commotion and the excitement and the eclectic mix of people. I was sad as I thought that I only have nine months left to enjoy such moments...but then I realized that perhaps this is why I like cities so much.

Today my mommy took me to Target and, among many things, she bought me a SHOWER CADY for the dorm. It stands a good three feet tall and is like a golf cady except it's completely unrelated. Here is my dilemma: I'm not sure if we should put the cady next to the shower and get water everywhere trying to access our various shampoo and grape aloe body wash or if we should actually put the cady in there with us. Space is limited in our 1 foot by 1 foot shower; cleansing oneself requires the maintenance of perfect (and constant) posture. laundry therapy

The internal conflict that has been torturing me seems to have lessened to the point where I can at least function. I've found that doing my laundry really makes me feel in control. I've washed all the clothing I own. I've washed all the clothing my sister owns. Now I've moved on to washing my comforter-- which I'm sure has accumulated a disgusting collection of bodily fluids, including Poco's piss.

My parents view this newfound obsession with cleaning to be a gift from God, as miraculous as the birth of Jesus Christ. Oh but how wrong they are!

Cleaning does not come naturally to me as I am forever destined to be a slob. When I clean it usually means I'm going nuts. I guess I hope that if I can put my enviroment in order then maybe the mess in my head will resolve itself too. Megan has witnessed these cleaning fits and has pointed them out for what they are: soap drenched manifestations of crazy.

I miss Megan and our dorm room in Pinney Hall. I miss being regarded with surprise and admiration when I decide to go to bed at 2am-- early for us. I miss getting bottles of Yellow Tail, just because. My parents don't like this so much. I miss living with a walking encyclopedia of music, art, books, etc. Poco never knows what band is playing. I miss having someone around with the foolish compassion to try to eat the food I make. I miss people coming to visit us and the Thursday night knocks on our door. My American Government class is harder than expected. Politics is simply something I haven't studied much, though I am always willing to throw in my two cents, usually in the form of an uneducated, self-righteous rant. My ignorance to the basic history, structure and state of our government is inexcusable and it is the reason why I decided to take this class over the other online classes offered. If I can't leave college with some sort of elementary knowledge of the country I've spent my life in, I haven't really received a proper education. What good is a brain full of novels and psychology textbooks if I have no understanding of what's going on outside of it?

I discovered Alan Ginberg's "Howl" in an anthology of poems I was reading a few weeks ago. I think it's brilliant and honest. It also inspired me to read his buddy Kerouac's On the Road. After reading the first 70 pages, however, I am officially done with it. It's a lot like Hemingway's As the Sun Also Rises except without the bullfights and the awesomeness. Maybe I'm just bitter that I'm not on the road this summer. I'm 22 years old and I'm spending my summer entering data and feeling sorry for myself. I'm not a serious scholar yet niether am I an alcoholic rebel who has seen more than a few states scattered along the East Coast.
